Positive Psychology:  The goal of positive psychology is to create a rich and meaningful life. It is possible to do this while still experiencing a degree of anxiety or depression. Many people in my experience avoid short term negative feelings that will prevent them experiencing long term happiness.

Counselling Approach: Find deep, authentic happiness by using acceptance and commitment therapy.

Fees: Sliding Scale depending on circumstances, usually $180 hr and $220 initial appointment. Medicare and Health Rebates available. Reduced rates may be available, please call reception for details.

Positive Psychology: Positive Psychology is an evidence-based approach to life that underlies all the therapies that I practice. A mounting body of research is showing that we can improve our wellbeing and enhance our ability to experience happiness if we learn to focus on positive things, and develop regular habits of noticing the positive aspects of our lives. This is an important practice because our brains have developed to keep us alive, and therefore they have a bias towards noticing threats and problems. Given this strong tendency, it is helpful to consciously counter-act our negativity bias by establishing a deliberate focus on positive events and feelings.

Counselling Approach: I often weave aspects of Positive Psychology into the therapies that I practice. Positive Psychology involves looking for positive events and aspects of life, and deliberately focusing on them, and experiencing the feelings that they evoke in us. It may involve planning to write in a journal about a positive experience every day, or noticing a positive character trait in ourselves. It can also involve developing a regular habit of feeling gratitude for the things you have, no matter how small or insignificant, or working on forgiveness and letting go of past grievances. Positive Psychology can make very positive and powerful differences to people’s lives.
