Narrative Therapy: is an approach that has been used by innovative therapists in Australian and New Zealand.  The Dulwich Centre in Adelaide is the birth place of narrative practice in Australia.  Narrative therapy is considered to be highly adaptive in counselling within indigenous, spiritual or culturally diverse contexts.

Counselling Approach: Vivian utilises Narrative Therapy in her day to day counselling as a innovative tool to explore life’s curious events and hurdles.  Exploring your life story can open new horizons and assist with rewriting your future.  The past has been lived chapter by chapter but the future is unwritten. With support our identity, our hopes and dreams are often disclosed in the same way that we might look through jewellery box of our family heirlooms.  Sometimes we are quick to discard the things that may be most valuable, or most treasured.

Fees: Vivian no longer will be able to accept Medicare referrals due to travel and business commitments. Her books may be closed for extended periods.

Narrative Therapy – Susanne Gilmour

Susanne Gilmour     Quals: BA, Cert Teach, Grad Dip Social Science, Grad Dip Psych, Assoc MAPS.

Narrative Therapy: Everyone has an interesting tale to tell, young  or old. Often it is about our own life and sometimes, especially with children, we like to make up our own story. With the help of an experience therapist and maybe with the use of stimulus material, stories from our imagination or real life, reveal much about ourselves to ourselves. For many who feel that they have been unsuccessful in life and love, or are in a place where life seems too hard to go on with, “reframing” past experiences as ones where we developed valuable and admirable characteristics can restore belief in oneself and optimism for the future.

Counselling Approach: Narrative therapy can help counselor and client tease out strategies and supports used successfully before and which may be available in the present to draw upon. Susanne Gilmour has found that every client has stories that fill her with admiration for their strength and their courage, in being willing to share them in the privacy and confidential setting of the counselling room and to use these as a building block to create a better future.
