Acceptance and Commitment Therapy: sometimes called therapy’s third wave this therapy approach seeks to minimize the struggle clients have with their thoughts. When the struggle is minimised we look to our value structure to dictate our direction in our lives. ACT is proven to be effective in the treatment of depression, pain, and anxiety.

Counselling Approach: Clients find the methods for the letting go of our thoughts and identifying their own value structure as being both productive and interesting. The mindfulness methods used to help calm the clients mind are seen as greatly beneficial.

ACT – Defusing from Non-Helpful Thoughts, Behaviours, Rules: Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT) is devoted to helping you the client step back and see the many beliefs, memories, rules and habits which no longer serve you. Many of us don’t realise we live in an arbitrary Constructed World of Rules and Shoulds, and so it’s no surprise that many clients I see present as ‘stuck’, ‘confused,’  ‘going backwards,’ or ‘spiralling down.’

Counselling Approach: As your ACT expert guide, I will help you see your situation ‘from above,’ so you can ‘look down’ at your rules and shoulds and experience them in a new way thereby ‘defusing’ them. We will employ proven ACT techniques in order for you to experience (again) a sense of forward movement in your life.

Fees:  Sliding Scale depending on circumstances, usually $195/hr; Bulk billing may be available for clients with a pension/health care card, or to full-time students. Please enquire when booking or full fees will apply.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based behavioural therapy, which at it’s core is about accepting what is out of your personal control, and committing to taking action that will improve your life. It has been proven to be effective in treating a wide range of psychological problems such as depression, anxiety, anorexia, chronic pain, and work place stress.

Counselling Approach: When I utilise Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, my aim is to help you create a rich, full and meaningful life and take action by your core values. What do you want to stand for in life? What is important to you deep in your heart? Acceptance and Commitment Therapy calls these “values”, and part of the ACT process involves spending time clarifying your core values. This information is then used to help you to set treatment goals, and begin taking action that will improve your life. Additionally, you will learn skills to help you handle painful thoughts and feelings more effectively, and so that they have less influence over your life.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based therapy that helps you to think about what you value most in life, and work towards living a fulfilling life in harmony with your values. ACT relies on mindfulness, a skill that enables us to live in the present, and change our habit of reliving uncomfortable experiences from our past, or worrying about possible future events. ACT teaches us to take a new perspective on unhelpful thought patterns, and learn to live a fulfilling life no matter what thoughts come across our minds.

Counselling Approach: I work with people in a warm and compassionate way to help them to think about what matters most to them, and what they want to get out of life. The values that people identify structure the therapy, and together we work on developing skills to help you to live according to your values, and be mindful of the pleasures and difficulties involved in valued living.
