Teenagers – 13 to 17 years – Susanne Gilmour

Susanne Gilmour     Quals: BA, Cert Teach, Grad Dip Social Science, Grad Dip Psych, Assoc MAPS.

Teenagers – 13 to 17 years:  The teen years are full of opportunities such as part-time jobs, deciding on a career path, discovering the opposite sex. But with the opportunities also come challenges such as peer pressure and bullying, which unfortunately have more impact than ever thanks to social media. Susanne Gilmour has over 10 years’ experience working with young people in a secondary school setting and knows the pitfalls and the possibilities that await our teens today!

Counselling Approach: Adolescents may struggle with a wide variety of issues. Susanne works with her young clients to address their particular problems, by improving communication skills within the family and by developing resilience and relationship skills in the social setting, particularly at school. Bolstering support networks at home and school can be particularly helpful for younger teenagers dealing with the complexities of  transitioning safely from childhood to adulthood. Older teenagers need the same, plus respect for their growing independence and the challenges associated with enjoying the privileges, as well as taking on the responsibilities of adulthood.
