Self-Harm – Angela Bromfield

Angela Bromfield      Quals: B Sc (Hons Psych), B Ed (Primary), M Ed Psych.

Self Harm: “Self harm” is the term used when a person intentionally injures or hurts themselves as a way to cope with emotional distress. People who self-harm have difficulty talking to others about their emotions, and instead inflict harm upon themselves – by cutting, burning, picking at their skin and similar – as a way to cope.

Counselling Approach:  The treatment for self harm may include counselling, harm minimization techniques, and learning more effective coping strategies in therapy. I tailor a treatment plan which is tailored specifically to the needs of the individual, drawing on evidence-based techniques such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Play Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT).
