Perinatal – Lauren Burrow

Lauren Burrow       Quals: B. Psychological Science (Hons); Grad. Cert. Health Promotion

Perinatal Mental Health: The period of pregnancy, birth, and 12 months postnatally can be an incredibly challenging as well as exciting time – sleep deprivation, feelings of incompetence, isolation, and frustration are all normal. If these issues develop into more serious concerns such as anxiety, fear of childbirth/pregnancy, or depression, support is available for pregnant women, mothers who have recently had their baby, as well as their partners, in order to help them through this time and feel themselves once again.

Counselling Approach: Lauren incorporates a number of therapeutic techniques in her sessions with clients experiencing perinatal mental health difficulties, including Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Positive Psychology. Her approach is individualised to each client, and she treats her perinatal clients with the sensitivity, respect, and non-judgmental attitude that allows them to deal with their struggles, identify strengths/positives, and progress forwards. As a mother herself, Lauren is aware of the additional stress, pressures and expectations that the role of parent can add to your life.
