Happiness development – Cobus Kleynhans

Cobus Kleynhans     Quals: BA (Hons), MA (Clin Psych)

Happiness development: Research on happiness is clear and decisive. Our life-circumstances – how much we earn, our body shape and address, etc., contributes only 10% to our overall levels of happiness.  The quality of our close and intimate relationships contributes overwhelmingly more (40%) to our sense of happiness. Happiness is therefore not the goal, but the by-product of investing and nourishing close and important intimate and familial relationships.

Counselling Approach: The best treatment approach to attaining happiness requires a model of intervention that identifies and removes the barriers that block, interfere or undermine one’s attempt to cultivate loving, caring and supportive relationships. An attachment-focused approach to treatment helps to restore the capacity for openness and trust.
