Grief and Loss Counselling: Grief is a normal, healthy, human emotional experience following the loss of anything (or anyone) of emotional value.  This may be through bereavement, relationship breakdown, deterioration of health, financial loss, or career disappointment to name but a few.  When allowed to properly run its course, grief allows us the time and processing we need to make the practical and emotional adjustments necessary to move forward into the next chapter of our lives after this loss. When grief becomes complicated, that is, the proper course is interrupted, amplified, or incomplete – longer lasting emotional disturbances can sometimes  result.

Counselling Approach: It is very important to allow grief to run its natural course, and every person’s grief experience is different. Even the same person may experience grief differently on different occasions or in response to different experiences of loss. Grief is many things: painful, inconvenient, frustrating, sad, scary. Grief is also very necessary and an unavoidable part of being human. Speaking with a supportive, informative, caring and respectful psychologist like Ainsley can help to facilitate healthy grief and loss and appropriate transition after a significant loss.
