It can be difficult managing time away from family or friends, dealing with the transition back home and can lead to some negative coping strategies such as alcohol or substance misuse which can lead to arguments, relationship distress or issues with the law. Working with a psychologist can help alleviate the pressure and lead to better outcomes.

Counselling Approach: Seeing a psychologist to help plan your retirement can provide benefit. Laura works from a client-centred perspective – listening to the story of the client and letting the client set the goals, whilst utilising her psychological skills to assist the client to develop their own skills to achieve their goals. This can incorporate aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) including Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing and Narrative Therapy. She is experienced in working with young people and adults from various cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.
