Emotional Intelligence – Dr Rose Gillett

Dr Rose Gillett       Quals: B Psych (Hons), D Psych (Clin), MAPS

Emotional Intelligence: Understanding our own and other’s emotions can be taken for granted. Emotion regulation and self-reflection skills are most often learned in the attachment relationship from our parents, this fundamental relationship is where we learn to understand ourselves, where we fit in relationships, and the greater world around us. When we can connect to ourselves emotionally and compassionately, complex feelings of love/anger/guilt/sadness are allowed to be present in our bodies, allowing us to be present with the people we are with (the people we have the emotions towards!) and truly allow connection on an emotional level.

Counselling Approach: Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) focuses on emotional experience and the unconscious defences or barriers to understanding our own emotions, and sharing those with others. This therapy works to unblock the defences, restructure the emotional experience, and allow conscious control over interpersonal intimacy.
