Solution Focused Therapy – Lauren Burrow

Lauren Burrow    Quals: B. Psychological Science (Hons); Grad. Cert. Health Promotion

Solution Focused Brief Therapy: Solution Focused Brief Therapy (or SFBT) is a short-term, future-focused treatment approach that respects each individual client, and believes that every client has the resources and ability to create their own solutions to a problem that faces them. The therapist’s role is to direct the client towards these solutions, encourage their continued use, and set further goals collaboratively with the client. This is a very different therapy approach to medically-based approaches that see clients as having a problem; SFBT sees the strengths and abilities of clients, not just a label or diagnosis. Research has shown that SFBT is effective in a number of populations, including clients with depression, anxiety, drug or alcohol-dependence, childhood sexual abuse, relationship issues, and parent-child difficulties.

Counselling Approach: Lauren believes counselling should not just be about what is wrong with someone: and tries to refocus her clients to see what is going well, what strengths they have, and to develop the client’s confidence that THEY have some control, and are capable of making positive changes in their life. Lauren sees her role as the facilitator of this change, someone to help identify when things are going well, and what her client did to achieve these things. Lauren incorporates this approach with all her clients to some extent, as she has noticed her clients respond very well to this refocus on what is going well.

Fees:  Sliding Scale depending on circumstances, usually $220 for initial appointment, $180 thereafter. Medicare and health rebates may apply. Reduced rates may be available please call reception.

Solution Focussed Brief Therapy: Solution Focussed Brief Therapy (SFBT) is another excellent practical and pragmatic therapy useful for our busy lives that assists individuals to develop and refine their own problem-solving processes.
