Sex Therapy – Tiegan Holtham

Tiegan Holtham      Quals: BBSc (Hons), MPsych (Clin), MAPS

Sex Therapy: We tend to believe that sex is a natural function, and therefore if we are having any trouble or doubts in our sexual lives then that must mean something is terribly wrong. But that is not the case! Many individuals and couples experiences difficulties in their sexual relationships – including difference in levels of desire, difficulties achieving an erection or orgasm, difficulties in expressing or receiving affection, awkwardness in sexual communication or action, and the list goes on!

Sexual difficulties can be powerful problems in relationships, and can create such a rift in intimacy and connection that the relationship is unable to be repaired. Similarly, individuals may avoid entering into a relationship, or feel a lot of embarrassment or shame due to concerns they have with sex. Sex does not need to be taboo, and it is important to address sexual difficulties directly to avoid more general relationship dysfunction.

Counselling Approach: Tiegan ensures that sex therapy is a non-judgemental, open and honest space for individuals and couples. Most sexual difficulties are related to anxiety, misunderstanding, or incorrect information, and are therefore readily treatable. Tiegan draws from a wide range of therapeutic influences to manage the unique difficulties of her clients, but include Gottman’s Couples Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and systemic therapy.

Current Availability: Usually within one week. Appointments available Saturdays.

Fees: Sliding Scale depending on circumstances, usually $180 hr and $220 initial appointment. Medicare and health rebates available.

Please note: Tiegan’s books are currently closed.
