Eating Disorders – Kelly Gall

Kelly Gall       Quals: BSc (Hons), MPsych (Health), MClinPsych MAPS

Eating Disorders: For some of us our relationships with food and eating can become physically or emotionally unhealthy and we can become overwhelmed by concerns regarding our weight or shape.  Feeling out of control of our eating often feels awful for those who binge eat, leading to embarrassment, shame and secret eating. For others, feeling in control of their eating can feel very powerful and keeping a tight control on eating can be part of what helps people sustain unhealthily low weight. Whether you eat too much, too little, or are caught in a cycle of eating and then trying to somehow ‘work it off’, having an eating disorder means that you are likely spending a lot of your time, attention and emotional energy focused on food, eating or how your body looks.   As a result gaining control over your eating and improving your relationship with food and your body can be liberating.

Counselling Approach: Kelly is an endorsed Health Psychologist and Clinical Psychologist with a particular interest in eating disorders, using evidence-based treatments to address the emotional factors underlying eating disorders. She aims to help her clients achieve freedom from constant worry about food and body image, aid them in establishing healthy eating behaviours and maintain a healthy weight. Kelly is passionate about helping clients to improve their health and wellbeing and live their lives to the fullest.

Burnout – Kelly Gall

Kelly Gall      Quals: BSc (Hons), MPsych (Health), MClinPsych MAPS

Burnout: Modern work environments can lead to a phenomenon known as ‘burnout’.  While technically burnout is a form of workplace/life stress, the contributing factors individually do not seem to be outside of a person’s capacity to tolerate. Rather it is the chronicity of work and other non-leisure commitments, often but not always combined with limited satisfaction which leads people to ‘hit a wall’.  Burnout can have a variety of presentations and can overlap with various mental health conditions, particular anxiety and depression.

Counselling Approach: Kelly is an endorsed Health Psychologist and Clinical Psychologist, experienced in helping people to recover from burnout and to reduce the impact on their careers, family and individual well being.  Kelly uses a variety of techniques to tailor sessions to the needs of the individual, their symptoms, the demands of their work.  She ensures that there is a considerable focus on exploring her client’s values to help them understand their previous behaviours and help them to establish a more fulfilling and healthy work-life balance, and effective career goals.

Current Availability: Usually within 1-3 weeks.

Fees: Initial appointment $260 and standard appointments $220/hr. Hardship rates may be available to those in difficult financial circumstances. Please contact reception. Medicare and Health Rebates available.

Cognitive Processing Therapy – Kelly Gall

Kelly Gall     Quals: BSc (Hons), MPsych (Health), MClinPsych MAPS

Cognitive Processing Therapy: Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a trauma focused cognitive behavioural therapy that seeks to help people with PTSD and trauma to integrate their experiences through understanding the ways in which trauma’s change their beliefs, and reducing avoidance. CPT is structured and focuses on addressing one trauma at a time for a period of approximately 12 sessions.

Counselling Approach: Kelly is an endorsed Health Psychologist and Clinical Psychologist, who has found that CPT can be more useful and tolerable for people with complex or repeated traumas than other forms of therapy such as prolonged exposure. She has found that CPT helps people understand and modify unhelpful rules that have been established by their trauma experience, but which maintain their distress or limit their lives. Kelly is currently using CPT with military personnel, first responders (such as police), and clients with interpersonal traumas such as assaults and abuse.
