Communication Skills: The ability to communicate effectively is a key life skills that can help deepen your relationships and improve your teamwork, decision making and problem solving skills. Effective communication combines skills such as non-verbal cues, engaged listening, assertiveness and the ability to recognise and understand your emotions and those of the person you are communicating with. It can even enable you to communicate negative or difficult messages without creating conflict.

Counselling approach: Melanie is passionate about helping clients to lead healthy and fulfilling lives. She utilises Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) to detect difficulties in communication and explore alternate and more effective ways of communicating.

Current availability: Usually within one week

Fly in/ Fly out relationships: In an ever changing economic client, fly in and fly out or shift worker relationships are becoming an ever common reality in Australia.  This can cause separation issues, distrust, miscommunication or non-communication. Although quite common, conflict in a couple’s relationship is very distressing and if ongoing and unresolved can lead to eventual relationship breakdown, depression and anxiety conditions. Instead, why not identify realistic and meaningful strategies that can assist trust, open two way communication, negotiation and equality that healthy relationships thrive upon.

Counselling Approach: Trudy has worked with clients who have relationship disturbances for many years, including those who have lost equality and trust in their relationship.  Her approach is based upon honesty, openness, assertiveness and rebuilding trust to offer the best chance of relationship success.  She is skilled in working with individuals or couples to address mistrust, miscommunication and a failure to foster equality.  Trudy also helps people accept diversity within relationships, communicate needs and consider other’s perspectives.  Her engaging and motivational approach helps individuals or couples to consider the importance, confidence and desire to change, and how they can increase these importance aspects of motivation

Fees: Sliding Scale depending on circumstances, usually $195 hr and $240 initial appointment for clinical appointments.  Health or Medicare Rebates may apply. Forensic sessions (for non-mental health based clients) incur an initial fee of $250. Subsequent sessions will cost $210.

Communication Skills: Communication is vital to human existence to enable us to get what we need in life from birth until death. To be successful in life we need to have good communication skills to enable us to do well at school, at university, in our careers, and of course in our social lives with family, friends, relationships and work colleagues. Did you know that the biggest reason for relationship breakdown is due to poor communication?  In fact almost everything we do in life is related to the process and content of our communication and of course in our global community cross-cultural communication skills are required in Australia’s multicultural society and also when travelling and working abroad.

Counselling Approach: Greg has been practicing psychology for almost 20 years and takes a practical and pragmatic approach to counselling utilising a relaxed and informal approach which recognises that as human beings we all have times in our lives when things don’t go well, sometimes we fall down, and sometimes we need a bit of help. Greg is committed to helping his clients find solutions to their problems, to improve their situations in life, and to recover from the nasty things that life sometimes throws at us. Greg utilises humanistic approaches such as existential therapy (Logotherapy), interpersonal therapy, and Mindfulness, as well as practical approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focussed Brief Therapy. For single event trauma Greg has achieved many successes with Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) techniques.
