Child and Adolescent Anxiety – Dr Rose Gillett

Dr Rose Gillett      Quals: B Psych (Hons), D Psych (Clin), MAPS

Child and Adolescent Anxiety: Anxiety is a difficult experience for anyone no matter their age. For a young person, anxiety can be crippling and impact on their lives from home to school, interfering with ability to make friends, complete schoolwork, or sleep in their own bed. It can be difficult to recognize anxiety in a young person due to their efforts to hide it and appear “confident.” Early detection and seeking support is very important in helping young people with anxiety achieve their full potential.

Counselling Approach: Rose works with Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to treat anxiety with children and young people. She believes understanding of anxiety and how it is maintained is vital, followed through with clear, effective skill building to treat the physical, behavioural, and cognitive symptoms.

Child and Adolescent Anxiety – Angela Bromfield

Angela Bromfield      Quals: B Sc (Hons Psych), B Ed (Primary), M Ed Psych.

Child and Adolescent Anxiety: Anxiety occurs when an individual has intense feelings of worry, tension and physical changes i.e. raised heart rate. Everyone feels anxious from time to time. This behaviour is common in children and most learn how to cope with feelings of anxiety without support. If the anxiety is impacting on the child leading their lives then it may be time to get help.

Counselling Approach: When working with clients, Angela only uses evidence-based therapies including: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solutions Focused Therapy and Play Therapy. With young clients games may be used to reinforce concepts and keep young clients engaged in the therapeutic process. Situations that anxiety is experienced will be explored during counseling and more helpful ways of dealing with anxious thoughts and feelings taught. When working with children Angela involves parents in the sessions as much as possible so that any new skills learnt can be worked on at home.

Fees:  Sliding Scale depending on circumstances, usually $180 for a standard consult ($220 for initial appointment).
