Addictions – Trudy Sheffield

Trudy Sheffield       Quals: Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Hons)

Addictions: Addiction is the condition of being habitually occupied with or involved in something. Physiological or psychological dependence, such as a substance or an activity, significantly impact on cognitive processes and behaviours.  These effects negatively impact on the health status and functioning of individuals.  For example, frequent use of a substance can lead to the development of dependence and associated withdrawal, damage to physical and mental health, accidents and injury, family and social disruption, workplace concerns and violence and crime.  Trudy works with clients who are experiencing life disturbances due to addictions and are contemplating change. Individuals with drug related or other addictions deserve to be extended the same rights that apply to all. Trudy demonstrates a commitment to professional interventions with appropriate outcome goals that are practical and achievable. Continual assessment, negotiation and evaluations of these goals help to avoid discrepancies and maximize change for the client.

Counselling Approach: Trudy has an engaging and realistic approach to therapy, and draws on a variety of evidence-based approaches to collaboratively develop a plan to suit each client. Her therapeutic orientation is a combination of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness and Motivational Enhancement Therapy.
